The Discarded Series.
This series of work looks into the subject of consumerism, or more specifically, our increasing compulsion to be defined by the things that we own.
Through the process of photographing discarded objects, washed ashore on the surrounding beaches, I want to discover if it's possible to elevate something that is no longer wanted or needed, back to the heights of desirability. Is it possible to tap into the psychology that drives us all towards mass consumption?
I hope these images will question the value of discarded objects in a culture that easily disposes of the old in favour of the new. I also hope to question the intrinsic value of the photographs I create. If my images feature attractive and beautiful representations of what is essentially rubbish, does that make the images themselves worthless?
